Castletownbere Holiday Home Self Catering Cottage West Cork

Castletownbere Holiday Home in a tranquil setting.

Eagle Hill Cottage is a traditional stone cottage to rent close to Castletownbere town on the Beara Peninsula in the heart of West Cork. The house is completely refurbished to a very high standard, set in the Beara Peninsula, along the Wild Atlantic Way in South West Cork. This self catering holiday home sits among the Caha Mountains with its own private road, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life yet only 3 km from the fishing village of Castletownbere. The cottage is close to the Cork and Kerry border so it is the ideal base for trips to the bustling towns of Kenmare, Killarney, Glengarriff etc. Some of the best walking, cycling and driving tours in Ireland are in this area – Beara Peninsula, Sheeps Head Peninsula, the Dingle peninsula and of course the Ring of Kerry.

This house is available to rent from as little as three nights. Boasting 3 double bedrooms (one with a single bed also) it has all the mod cons and facilities that a guest would want, yet keeping its charm and character. With spectacular views of Bere Island and Bantry Bay, it is a good base for touring and seeing all the sights or just to relax. The patio is the ideal setting for relaxing with a glass of wine while enjoying the uninterrupted views of Berehaven Harbour and the unspoilt scenery. Imagine relaxing in front of the log fire after your day (with logs supplied).

The village of Glengarriff is approx. 30 minutes drive from here with the renowned Garnish Island and its Italian Gardens. The only cable car in Ireland joins Dursey Island to the mainland at the most westerly tip of the peninsula, a great place for hill walkers and bird watchers. At Allihies you can follow the Copper Mine Trail and visit the Museum which gives the history of the copper mines. The spiritual care centre Dzogchen Buddhist Retreat Centre is also just 8 km from Castletownbere.

The peninsula of Beara is dominated by the Caha Mountains and it is an area of great scenic unspoilt beauty with its rugged Cork coastline, rocky mountains and lakes. Berehaven Golf course, a 9 hole course beside the sea is only minutes from Castletownbere. There are many archaeological sites around Beara also. The Beara Way, a tourist trail travelling along the entire peninsula, offers many walking routes to choose from whether you want a short walk or long hike. It takes the walker through breathtaking scenery, watch out for the black and yellow markers showing you the route.

Mizen Head, Ireland’s most south westerly point, boasts a Signal Station where the tourist is welcome to visit. There is a good selection of places to dine in Beara, most of which use the fresh fish available on our doorstep.
